Single and double sizes explained
| Kiwi Wool inner | Inner size | Fits mattress | Overhang each side |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single | 140 x 210 cm | Single, about 91 x 188 cm | about 24 cm |
| Double | 180 x 210 cm | Double, about 137 x 188 cm | about 21 cm |
| Double | 180 x 210 cm | King single, about 107 x 203 cm | about 36 cm |
Both sizes are 210 cm long, which gives extra length at the foot of a standard 188 cm mattress and a neat fit on a 203 cm king single. The NZ duvet size guide covers every size we make.
How to choose the weight
Our temperature guide recommends 200 GSM alpaca for summer, 250 to 350 GSM alpaca or 350 to 400 GSM wool for spring and autumn, and 400 to 500 GSM alpaca or 450 to 600 GSM wool for winter. The duvet GSM guide explains how to read those numbers.

| 100% NZ Wool 500GSM Duvet Inner | New Zealand wool | 500 | Cold winters and unheated rooms | heavier than the alpaca options |

Duvet inners for kids and teens
Children run warm and kick off anything heavy. A 200 GSM alpaca single is light enough for summer, and a 350 GSM alpaca single covers most of the year in a heated home. Alpaca fibre is naturally free from lanolin, which is why we describe it as the safest choice for children and those with sensitive skin.
Both alpaca and wool are naturally anti-bacterial and inhibit dust mites, and both wick moisture away so a sleeping child stays dry. Teenagers who have moved to a double bed can carry the same weight up a size. If allergies are part of the picture, read our post on choosing a hypoallergenic alpaca duvet.
Duvet inners for guest rooms
A spare room is often the coldest room in the house and it has to suit whoever turns up. The 350 GSM alpaca is the all-rounder: light enough for a summer guest, warm enough for autumn. For a south-facing or unheated spare room, the 500 GSM wool double is the safe bet in winter.
Tip. If your guest bed is a queen, see our queen duvet inners. A double inner on a queen mattress leaves only about 13 cm of overhang each side.
What about king single?
Kiwi Wool does not make a king single size. A king single mattress is about 107 x 203 cm, and most of our customers with one choose a double inner. At 180 cm wide it hangs about 36 cm over each side, which is a comfortable, generous fit. A single inner at 140 cm wide also works if you prefer less overhang, with about 16 cm each side.
Either way the 210 cm length suits the longer king single mattress well.
Care, delivery and warranty
All our inners are dry clean only. Air an alpaca inner outdoors in the shade and a wool inner in the sun, and it will stay fresh for years without washing. Small marks can be spot cleaned with minimal water. Full instructions are in our duvet care guide.
NZ orders over $150 NZD ship free, orders are generally sent within 5 working days, and delivery by Aramex usually takes up to 7 days. Every inner carries our 3-year warranty against manufacturing defects, and our 39 published customer reviews are rated 4.8 to 5 out of 5.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a single duvet inner in NZ?
Kiwi Wool single inners are 140 x 210 cm. They fit a standard New Zealand single mattress of about 91 x 188 cm with roughly 24 cm of overhang on each side.
What size is a double duvet inner in NZ?
Our double inners are 180 x 210 cm. They fit a double mattress of about 137 x 188 cm with roughly 21 cm of overhang each side, and they are the usual choice for a king single bed as well.
Do you make a king single duvet inner?
No. For a king single mattress (about 107 x 203 cm) we recommend the double inner, which gives about 36 cm of overhang each side. A single inner fits with about 16 cm each side.
Which duvet inner is best for a child?
A 200 GSM alpaca for summer or a 350 GSM alpaca for the rest of the year. Alpaca is lanolin-free and naturally resistant to dust mites, which is why we call it the safest choice for children. Browse the alpaca duvet range.
How heavy is a single or double duvet inner?
The 350 GSM alpaca weighs about 1.7 kg in single and 2.3 kg in double. The 450 GSM alpaca is about 2.0 kg in single and 2.7 kg in double. The 500 GSM wool is heavier again, and the 200 GSM alpaca is our lightest.
